Best Sound For Feature Film

Please complete this form to calculate a score for each project you judge. We will collate the scores from all judges to find the nominees and winner of this category.

Information about Judging Process

For the first round of judging, we are asking judges to vote in the following categories.

Best Sound (overall sound)
Best Sound Recording
Best Sound Editing
Best Sound Mixing

We strongly encourage that you read all supporting document between each film, as it outlines the entrant’s reason for entering the film, including specifics on each role.

Please consider that sometimes content may lend itself to obvious sound opportunities while others may have a more subtle, considered soundscape.

A PDF of the supporting document was attached to your introduction email.

Rank every film, including all films you’ve worked on. Please rank them honestly and list those films worked on in the text box at the end of this form. The awards committee will not include them in the final scores to reduce bias; however, we still want to collect these ranks.

Things examples of things to consider when judging Best Sound Recording are:
How complex or difficult are the locations to get clean audio? Use of Boom vs Lapels? Is the ADR noticeable? (Etc.)

Sound Recording includes roles such as Production Mixers, Boom Operators , ADR Mixers, & FX Recordists.

Things examples of things to consider when judging Best Sound Editing are:
How well does the sound design tell to story, or does it do it a disservice? How well are the SFX and the Foley integrated together? How clean and understandable is the dialogue? Does the sound feel natural, or does it feel over processed? (Etc.)

Sound Editing includes roles such as Dialogue Editors, Sound Effects Editors, Foley Artists, and Sound Designers.

How well was the use of surround / stereo? Does the sound feel natural in the film or “tacked on”? How do the levels been each of the element work or hinder the story?
