The information you give the ASSG via this form will only be used for completing the judging process for the 2026 ASSG Awards and will help us streamline your judging experience.
You need to be a current Full Member in order to be a judge in the ASSG Awards.

There are THREE types of judging you can sign up for. You can volunteer to be a judge for as many as you have time for.

Craft Judging

About the Judging types

There are THREE types of Judging types you can volunteer for. You can volunteer for as little or as many as you like.

Non-Features

The judging for all non-features runs 24th July – 16th August. This is done in your own time. You may select to judge more than one category within the Non-features.

For all categories you will be judging the overall sound. For categories eligible for Craft Awards(*), you will also be judging for each craft. For all categories except Commercial or Promo and Short Form, each entry must be viewed for a minimum of 15 minutes, or you may also watch the entry in full.

You can not be a judge for a category you are entered in.
Non-feature judges scores determine the winner and nominees for categories below. For Craft awards, the scores determine the shortlist of projects that will go into the 2nd round of judging.

The Categories for this and their required judging commitments are:

Commercial or Promo (approx. 3h)
Short Form (approx 8h)
Documentary* (approx. 6-15h)
Lifestyle, Reality, or Factual Entertainment (approx. 4-10h)
Live-Event Broadcast (approx. 4-6h)
Television Series* (approx. 7-24h)
Children’s or Animated* (approx. 4-10h)
Games or Interactive (approx. 2-4h)

Feature Films – 1st Round Panel

The judging for the feature films will run sometime between 24th July – 16th August. This is done as a panel in a mixing facility organised by your state representative. Depending on the number of volunteers, there may not be enough to hold a panel in your state.

The panel will watch 15 minute segments from each film entered. For all categories in the features, you will be judging on the overall sound and for each craft.
The 1st Round Panels are approximately 2 days (depending on the number of entries). We will try to arrange the screenings over one weekend or two consecutive Saturdays. You must attend all the days of your panel.

If you have a conflict of interest on any of the projects entered you must abstain from voting on those films, but you may still vote on the others.

1st Round Feature judges’ scores determine the nominees for the categories below. For Craft awards, the scores determine the shortlist of projects that will go into the 2nd round of judging.

The Categories for this are:

Independent Feature Film (overall budget below 2 million)
Feature Film (overall budget above 2 million)

Craft

The Craft judging is a 2nd round judging that will run between 21st August – 20th September. This is done in your own time, however for Sound Mixing we have ask you to join the Feature Film 2nd round panel if you do not have access to a proper facility for playback.

Judges will watch 15 minute segments from each project shortlisted. Segments may differ from the 1st round panel. You will be judging on based on the craft only, and not the overall sound.

You can not be a judge if you are shortlisted for more than 2 projects in this category.

Please note that 2nd round judges may also be voting on the craft awards.

We are looking for judges who ideally work, or have previously worked, in these roles. It is important that the judges of these categories understands the craft they are judging.
