From the Presidents Desk…

As many of you are aware, Steve Murphy stepped down as president of the ASSG last year after 8 years of admirable service and leadership. The National Committee and I extend our heartfelt thank you and congratulations to Steve for his considerable term in the hot seat El Presidente Murphy, we salute you!

I’ve been El Presidente for a few months now, reacquainting myself with the inner workings of the ASSG as well as engaging with our industry peers in other guilds.

The Australian screen sector is currently experiencing something of a golden age, but that’s not to say our industry is without challenges. Workplace culture and safety, evolving technology, mental health and well-being, diversity and inclusion, meeting crewing needs now and into the future, government policy consultation; these are some of the areas the ASSG is currently engaged in on behalf of our members.

But it’s not all serious, we also love celebrating the amazing work of our members! We’re planning screenings and social events over the course of the year to bring our members together and celebrate our love of all things sound, leading up to our annual awards in Adelaide at the end of the year.

And most important of all, the ASSG exists for, and because of, you. We want to hear from you! Share your sonic adventures with us on the socials (tag @assg) Got an idea for an event in your department, let us know! And of course, if you have industry concerns we can help with please email us via the website.

Let’s make 2024 a great year for our industry and the ASSG.

Nigel Christensen
ASSG President
