ASSG State Update – June 2023

We had our first “social” event in Victoria last week, at the iconic Corner Hotel. Around one third of Vic Members came down – a great result! We also had some non-members come down to join in. People really appreciated the opportunity to just hang out and catch up with others in the industry. Everyone expressed their enthusiasm for repeating the process in the future, and as such there’ll definitely be more to come.
The St Kilda Film Festival is currently on, running until June 12th. Included in the prize for ‘Best Achievement in Sound Post-Production’ is a 1-year associate membership for the ASSG.

On May 11th, Rob Ramon from AKA Pro Audio came to Perth to hold an all-day demonstration of the new Sound Device’s A20 Nexus. We had an amazing turnout of location soundos who got to have some hands-on experience with the receiver and transmitters – and even did some comparisons with other radio mic systems.
We have submitted feedback on the proposed film studio plans, scheduled to build in Whiteman Park by 2025. We have also written in a letter to the minster in regards to the film studio plans, and it’s the lack of any post-production as required by the tender. We hope some positive things will come from this.
