The 27th Annual Australian Screen Sound Guild Awards were held on Saturday, December 2nd 2023 at Dockside in Cockle Bay, Sydney / Gadigal Country.

The proceedings kicked off at 1pm with our MC Lizzy Hoo, where she welcomed us with some stand-up.

We honoured Pete Smith as this years Lifetime Achievement award recipient. “Pete always demonstrates generosity in sharing his knowledge and displays unwavering dedication to the growth of both individual sound editors and the larger sound community.”  Pete and the South Australia crew also won for the Independent Feature – You’ll Never Find Me. 

Three Thousand Years of Longing smashed it – scoring wins for all the craft awards (Best Sound Recording, The Andrew Plain – Sound Editing, and Sound Mixing). 

The team behind Monkie Kid won for Children’s or Animated Series, making this their 3rd ASSG Award win for the series.

The Last King of the Cross took home the Award for Television Series, and was also nominated for Sound Recording, the only non-feature nominated for a Craft.

The final award of the night was won by the huge effort behind Elvis – for Best Sound for a Feature Film.

Leah Katz, along with Mick Boraso and Tara Webb, surprised our longest committee member Adrienne Parr with a gift from committee members she’s served with over her many years – as a thank you for her continuing support for the ASSG. 

The awards closed out with a standing ovation for our departing President – Steve Murphy, after his 8 years of being the ASSG President, and many others prior as varies committee member roles.

The celebrations continued across the bridge at The Shelbourne Hotel, where lightning and flash down pours couldn’t stop us from celebrating throughout the night.
